Things to do in Bali.

Dear all,

I am just making mental notes of my trip here the last few days. So do pardon me if it does not make head or tail to you.

Night one.
Checked into one bedroom apartment Seminyak called Sunset Terrace. Not the swankiest, but will meet my mere mortals requirement. One floor of living room, kitchen and pantry & another floor of bedroom. bathroom was spacious and balcony was overlooking over a farm. The Tv has an amazing 60 channels to choose from including my favorite Travel & Living, CNN & Asia Food Channel. At USD60++, you really cant complain. Especially if you are traveling within the means of MERE mortals.

After the check in we met the bridal party from for a great dinner at the Hu’u bar In Seminyak. To those of you who never been to this high end establishment, this is the birth place of the famous LYCHEE MARTINI. The band was absolutely fantastic.

Day Two.
Voon and I had a walk about in the rather rugged Seminyak town. We of course have lunch is the world reknowned Warung Made (some Mat Salleh call it cafe Made). The Fusion Indonesian + French (correct me if I am wrong) serves exceptional Nasi Campur. Although personally i think Warung Made in kuta is much better.

In the evening we made our way to the lovely Villa Ombak in Changgu for the garden wedding. Set in what i thought to be n unimaginable Orange and Purple theme, the colour came out superbly. One of the most touching wedding i have seen. had the pleasure or working with some local wedding vendors from Bali. The were very professional.

Day 3.
Work up feeling slightly blue. Today is Faith’s first concert performance. And i am not there to see it. But felt better after rationalizing that daddy is working to give her the best in life. Am sure mommy dearest have tape it for daddy:)

We then proceeded to have a post-wedding portraiture for Malaysian couple Donna & Suffian. Started in the The Legian and then made hour way to the padi terrace of Ubud. We then had some pitch dark night shots at the Jimbaran stretch of beach restaurant. I manage to get my water proved Cole Haans wet, when the wave went above my ankle. For the love of art!

It actually drizzle the hole day, but am happy that wew still manage to get some very good shots.Professional mah, rain on shine must deliver:)

We then made hour way to the italian restaurant Ultimo in Seminyak. Food quality and ambience was exceptional. VERY value for money. We actually had two tuna steak, 2 seafood pasta, pizza + drinks and the bill came out to slightly RM100++ only.

Was invited to Ku De Ta (high end party central of Bali), but was actually too tired to go out.

Day 4.
Voon and I decided to go for a well deserved massage at the famous Jari Menari. but we ended up at Cool spa & salon. Rph 250,000 for two hours inclusive of scrub is a pretty decent deal. But still prefer my Chinese from China Male Masseur at Empress Ma in Section 17, where the styly of massage is HURT SO GOOD.

Ok. I am not logging off from Grocer and Grind to collect my bags for the airport. Oh Yah, many cafes in Seminyak actually have wi-fi. Just have to pick the right one. Yesterday we were at Cafe Bali and guess what, after ordering they told us the line was down!!! OK no more complaining.

See you guys soon!

Regards from Bali,

Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbourne’s Bride blog post…

As most of you following this post will know, I recently shot some Pre-wedding in Melbourne. This was by far my favorite “business” trip. I was there for almost a week. Giving me some time to do some tourist-y stuff as well .

Oh while we were they, we were hosted by our very generous clients and now friends for life, Chang & Justine at their new sleek apartment in Docklands. The view here was gorgeous. The were truly an amazing couple. To top it all few days after i came back to Kuala Lumpur, I found a very touching post in Justine’s blog. It nearly made me cry…

Last week, we had so much fun playing host to one of malaysia’s top photographers- Kid Chan (
www.kidchanstudio.com). It also marked a very important milestone in our lives- our pre-wedding photoshoot! icon smile Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post...

The idea of taking pre-wedding photos in Australia is rather peculiar, dressing up like a bride before your wedding day is almost unheard of in Melbourne! However, being asian in a western world, I was rather proud to have adopted my asian roots and went along with this ‘tradition’. I must say it was one of the best decisions we’ve made so far as a couple icon smile Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post... It was an utterly fun experience, even for chang! and yes we’re only young once!

We were blessed in many ways during the whole process of the shoot, firstly we had our shoot over 2 days (thanks to the generousity of Kid and his crew-Voon) so we spent the first day out at the beautiful Yarra Valley and Tulip Farm in Silvan. Although we got kicked out from a winery, and barely escaped the attack of an eagle in an open vineyard!.. everything else went perfectly well =P

n514421040 1879307 7969 Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post...

The highlight of the day had to be the tulip farm! we actually got there when it was closed to the public, and had the whole farm to ourselves until sunset icon biggrin Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post... It was such a bonus that we didn’t get kicked out, let alone we got in for free! =P

As the sun went down, we started heading back towards Melbourne and by chance we drove past a house with a really huge cherry blossom tree. I thought to myself ‘that would’ve been an awesome backdrop, if only we had a little more sunlight’. To my amusement, Kid and Voon asked to stop the car so that they could attempt to have their final shot of the day. They really weren’t joking when they said they’ll “try their best” to get a shot out of this. So there we were, outside a stranger’s home taking night shots with a tree which we soon learnt from its owner to be a hundred years old! At that moment, I was really impressed by how hard the boys tried, they were literally rolling on the road, snapping away with flash lights and at one point I even thought Kid was going to be hit by a car! Hehe, if this isn’t true passion for what they do, then I don’t know what is! When I saw how the photos turned out, I was in absolute awe as it was exactly how I’d imagine it to be.

Our second day was spent taking iconic photos in the city of Melbourne. So yes, we did the Parliament building, Pelligrini!, Degraves Lane, St.Patrick’s cathedral, yadda yadda.. and i reckon the best shot we had was on the city circle tram!

n514421040 1879308 8253 Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post...

The tram driver actually stopped for 5 mins and we jumped onboard to take more photos with very amused passengers! I must admit, I was a VERY shy going around the city in my wedding gown, it was such an attention magnet.. gawd! everyone stared, smiled and congratulated us- I felt very uncomfortable at one point- thank god i didn’t bump into any of my work colleagues despite being in work teritory! hehe icon razz Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post... However, after awhile I kinda got used to the idea that- yes I am very much a bride to be! It gave me a taste of how our wedding day would be, hence why people in malaysia call this the “Pre-wedding shoot”! The experience is amazing.

n514421040 1937292 5968 Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post...
We also went down to the Brighton Beach boxes, shortly after it started to rain so we headed home only to find that we were just in time for a sunset shot at our apartment terrace icon smile Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post... Everything happened with great timing and reason and we were truly blessed with every photo opportunity!

We can’t wait until we see the photos, I think we took about a gazillion photos lol! Chang and I are now officially UN-camera shy icon smile Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post...

In summary, there are good photographers and then there are great photographers. All I can say is that if you’re after a super great one for your wedding, you’ll find wonderful photos captured through the lens of Kid! It’s a pity he’s unavailable to do our actual weddings but its a blessing enough to have our pre-wedding shots done by such great talent and that we’ve made new friendship along the way icon smile Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post...

p/s: Yes I did get a second gown for the shoot, THE main gown still remains a mystery to Chang keke icon razz Warning: I nearly cried reading this Melbournes Bride blog post... and SADLY, my new Alan Pinkus ivory bridal shoe is WRECKED from the tulip farm =(

Note to future Mr. & Mrs. Lee: Dear Justine and Chang, thank you for everything. Please let me assure you that the pleasure and privilege of photographing you both was all ours. Hope to see you both soon:)

Young Cancer Patient NEEDs HELP

On a serious note, while we count our blessings it’s also our duty to remember those who are less fortunate. Good friend Brunei Photographer -Jan shim , forwarded me the following news clipping about Desmond Chin, a 20 year old Bruneian from Seria diagnosed with leukaemia in April 2005 and suffers from T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a type of cancer which causes more than normal quantities of white blood cells:

May God bless Desmond with strength and speedy recovery.

Quarter Life Crisis Update

I recevied a pleasant surprise in the form of email from the Author or Quarter Life Crisis, an essay written for PLAY magazine in April 2001.

I remember very vividly receiving it in the form of forwarded mail in the early year 200X. Although impress with the insights it did not felt like as if it was relevant to my live at that point and quickly deleted it.

Fast forward 2005, a flashback occur. I remember telling myself “Hey this is what that mail was talking about!” Then my only instinct was to google “Quarter-life Crisis” – and some random search appearded. Unfortunately, sites such as the following were all unable to cite the original author:

http://www.cds.caltech.edu/~shane/text/quarterlifecrisis.html

My only choice then to Credit the Author as Unknown like many great poems and short essays.

I am truly excited and happy to hear from the author of this great piece, where I found comfort in during a period of uncertainty in my life. Now that i know that Brenda Della Cassa the authour of the fabulous Cinderella Was a liar is the original author, i can give the replace the “by unknown” to by bella Della Cassa. YEAH!

Ok got to run……..talk later!

Cheers,
KIDCHAN
