This morning i suddenly thought of Famous Hon Kee Porridge that my parents use to bring me as a little boy. So this is how this makan post came about. Located opposite Hong Leong Bank at “Ceci Kai” or now renamed to Jalan Hang Lekir (off Petaling Street), is founded in 1959. Hon Kee is now operated by Vivian, a 3rd generation in the business.

I like coming to Hon kee in the morning for the whole sensory experience. The rugged atmosphere of Chinatown, the scent of great variety of food & the street lights really adds up to a MUST TRY experience.  As I watch the hawkers and businesses set up (while most is still asleep)  really make me feel like I am ahead of the world???

As the name suggest, Hon Kee specializes in Porridge. They serve a variety including Chicken Porridge, Fish Poridge, Preserved Egg Porridge, Pork Innards, Pork Metballs porridge and their very famous Raw Fish Porridge (Sang Yue Chook). The porridge is of a smooth texture variety and not the Teochew rice base type.

The raw fish slices  are typically served separately on a dish and will be cooked just right by the heat of the porridge as you dipped it in.

Another one of my favorite condiment would be the fried Pig intestine or “zha cheong” . Although it may sound like something you eat to go through Fear Factor Challenges, it is one of the most sought after condiments.

It’s very fragrant and adds a new dimension to the otherwise smooth & silky texture that you will slurp rather than chew.

Hon kee opens at 4.30am till 2.00pm daily. Perfect breakfast for the early risers or  late supper for the after party clubbers!

VERDICT: Must TRY! Bring me along

Wifey and I, took a trip down memory lane when we visited Sunway University College, the place where we first met.

We were there under the invitation of Ms. Elizabeth Lee the Executive Director of Sunway University College. Ms. Lee was the very same lady who presented me with my Canadian Matriculation Program Dipolma.

Our gracious host took us to lunch at the Sunway Dining Room, a fine dining training restaurant operated by Sunway’s School of Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Management (SHTLM).

Shirlyn and I, have a great time catching up with our gracious host and was so impressed with the food quality and service by the trainees. Some of them is in First Semester. Totally clued-in!

yesterday was a crazy day. Started shooting at 7am till 10pm. There
were more than 1500 delegates from 38 countries, the conference was
opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhyono. Today, I am just trying
to have a long breakfast and take it easier before my evening flight.
Btw, can you figure what tadpole looking like fruit I am having?

I recently had the best ever mee soto in my life! For Malaysian, you must be quite surprise that the best mee soto i ever had is found in Singapore!!! The mee soto i had was was from Amirah and Nur Aniqah Mee Soto and Mee Rebus in Adam Road Food Centre

I went to the stall base on a recommendation of a Singapore taxi driver. He told me that the food was so good, that certain “Agung” from Malaysia would always order the food to be taken away.Being a Malaysia i was not easily convinced, as Singaporean hawker food to us is some how too clean to be tasty. Anyway since the food centre was
on the way to Copthorne Orchid Hotel On Dunearn Road when i board the Odyssey Coach, I gave it a shot.

When i got to the stall, there was a very loooooongg queue. From their dressing I can tell that the queue compromised of Singaporeans from all walks of life and all three major races. A very good sign.

I order a take away as i was ready to board the bus back from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, and quiclkly went on my way.

As i open the take away packet on the coach, the smell of the mee soto was soooooo fragrant that i dig in immediately (hence no picture, sorry!), raising quite a few envious look from a few fellow passenger. They even asked how come I got preferred treatment.

To cut the whole story short, It was really the best mee soto i ever had! They must have some sort of secret mee soto recipe.You must try it to believe it!

I cant wait to try their rebus next!

am enjoying a casual no frill Japanese food with the girls in Gardens.

The family favourite would be the caterpillar roll. Must try and really value for money at rm12.80.

verdict: value for money. Good food with great casual ambient.

Kid is enjoying yee sang with his favourite girls and some close friends in New Paris Restaurant,ss2.

Yee sang or yu shang is a traditional chinese new year dish made up various type of salad and mixed with a variety of spices.

During Chinese New Year family,friends and business associate will gather to “lou hei” or to mix and toss the yee sang. The higher the better. This is to symbolize that one will gain more prosperity and higher heights:)

There is also an unverified claim that this is a Made in Malaysia invention:)
